Wall Graphics & Decals

About this wall graphics & decals

A wall graphic is either self-adhesive vinyl applied straight to the paint, or a paste-hung non-woven wallpaper for a full mural. Anything wider than the roll is tiled into panels with a small overlap and supplied in hanging order. The surface decides everything: smooth painted plaster takes a standard film, while render, brick and blockwork need a high-tack textured-surface film.

Questions we get asked

How do you handle a wall wider than the roll?

The image is tiled into vertical panels with an overlap of around 15mm and numbered in hanging order. We plan the overlaps to fall where the image hides them rather than through a face or a logo, and we will show you the split before anything prints.

How long after painting can a graphic go up?

Give fresh paint a few weeks to cure. Applying to green paint traps solvent under the film, the adhesive never keys properly, and it takes the paint with it on removal. Wash the wall down and let it dry completely before you start.

What resolution do I need for a three metre wall?

A mural is viewed from a metre or two away, so around 100dpi at final size is right and anything more is wasted. What matters far more is the source file: a large vector or a genuinely high-resolution photograph, not a web image scaled up.

Will it stick to a textured wall?

Standard wall film will not. It bridges the texture and lifts within days. Render and brick need a high-tack conformable film worked into the surface with a heat gun and a brush, and that is a permanent application, not a removable one.

Can it be taken off at the end of the lease?

Low-tack wall film on sound, cured paint is designed to come away cleanly in one piece. Nothing is guaranteed on an unknown wall, so if make-good matters, test a small piece in a corner first and budget for a touch-up coat regardless.
